If you get an error message "ScanConverter not found!", please make sure that the ScanConverter is attached to the computer, and that it is listed in the device manager.

Click the "Start" button, and you should see your USB-ScanConverter's serial number in the lower right corner, above the software version information. You will see a dialog similar to the one shown in these instructions. After the installation is complete, start the program (it does not have to be connected to you car, but the ScanConverter must be connected to the PC). There is also a folder containing the Visual Basic source code to these application programs which you may modify if you like, so feel free to take a look around the source, it's meant as a starting point for your own experiments.

Go to the V6Scan or L4Scan directory and double-click on "Setup", which will install the application program into a default directory, which you can change if you like. You can install either or both programs, depending on which cars you want to troubleshoot. Step 2: Install the application software There are two separate versions of the program for the V6 and 4-cylinder Fieros. If the driver has been successfully installed, you will find an entry called "USB-ScanConverter" in the device manager under "USB-Devices". Depending on your Windows version, you may be warned that the driver has not been signed. Depending on your version of Windows, let Windows search for a driver on the CD, or direct windows to the "Driver" directory on the CD. Windows will show a message notifying you that it has found new hardware called "USB-ScanConverter", and after a little while it will ask you for a driver. Step 1: Install the driver First, plug the ScanConverter into any USB-Port on your Windows-based computer, and insert the CD. The ScanConverter hard- and software has been successfully tested on Windows 98, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The following procedure may vary slightly depending on your version of Windows. Installation Please stick to these instructions for a smooth install! You must be logged in as Administrator for the installation procedure. It does not work with the 87-88 distributorless 4-cylinder engines. This scantool is compatible with all stock V6 Fiero ECMs, and works with 84-86 4-cylinder Fieros w/ distributors.
